About This Project

A rental duplex built into a Bellingham hillside — two stories on the street side, three on the downhill face — wearing a tired olive green. The owner wanted the building to stop blending in, and there was repair work first: rot around the circuit box, a belly band, and corner trim that had seen too many winters.

Carpentry came before color: the trim around the circuit box, the belly band, and the corner boards were repaired or replaced. Then the building was primed in Peel Bond and finished in a deep navy with crisp white trim — sprayed body, brushed detail — and the unit doors done in Emerald enamel. Tenants stayed put; the schedule worked around them one face of the building at a time.
