Why Custer Homeowners Choose a Local Painter
From farmhouses and barns on open acreage to newer builds along the I-5 corridor, Custer homes face real Pacific Northwest weather. We paint here regularly — and plan every project around it. Our wet Pacific Northwest weather is hard on paint, so every proposal starts with prep.
Custer's homes sit on open rural ground where weather arrives sideways, and unheated outbuildings weather even faster than the house.
Custer has plenty of homes built before 1978, where old coatings need careful, lead-safe prep. As an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm, our crews handle scraping and sanding on older siding the safe, legal way — and we schedule every exterior around real Whatcom County weather windows.

Painting Homes in Custer
Custer's rural properties, acreage homes, and outbuildings weather full exposure to wind and rain — and often need carpentry repairs alongside fresh paint.
Acreage properties are their own kind of project — houses, shops, barns, and fences that all weather together. One crew and one schedule covers all of it, prepped for the wind off the fields.
Named for the Storekeeper: A Short History of Custer
Custer got its name in 1886 from Albert W. Custer, an early settler who ran the first store and served as the first postmaster. The original town sat at what is now the corner of Valley View and Bay Roads.
When the railroad came through between 1890 and 1892, the whole town moved to meet it, and Custer has stayed close to the tracks and the highway ever since. It never incorporated; it is a census-designated place of open farmland between Ferndale and Blaine.
It is still small, 518 people at the 2020 census, up from 366 ten years earlier, with farmhouses, barns, and shops on acreage and newer homes along the I-5 corridor.
For a painter, Custer is acreage work. House, shop, barn, and fence all weather together in the wind off the fields, and often need carpentry before paint. One crew and one schedule covers all of it.
