The Right Finish for Every Room
Steamy bathrooms and busy hallways need different paint than a bedroom ceiling. Pick a room — the product, sheen, and prep change with it.
Living & Family Rooms
The rooms everyone sees — and touches. Washable matte and eggshell finishes hide wall imperfections while surviving fingerprints, furniture scuffs, and movie-night spills.
What Interior Painting Costs in Mount Vernon
Mount Vernon interiors use the whole $1,200–$12,500+ range: compact hillside rooms around $850 each, big east-side open plans toward the top. Vaulted great rooms take staging and cut-in time that a bedroom doesn't, and the estimate says so plainly.
It's free, written, and organized by room.
Paints That Handle Our Damp Climate
Wet rooms come first in our spec for Mount Vernon: mildew-resistant enamel in baths and kitchens, moisture-tolerant paint anywhere that gets scrubbed. River-valley fog and open-valley summer sun plus closed winter windows demands it.
For bedrooms and living spaces, low- and zero-VOC is the default. Most families never move out, and the smell doesn't outlast the day.
Older Walls Deserve Real Prep
The prep list for hillside craftsman homes and newer east-side developments around Mount Vernon is unglamorous and non-negotiable: fill, skim, sand, prime. Then, and only then, color.
Older than 1978? The work runs lead-safe, per our EPA firm certification.
Winter Is Interior Season
While exterior work waits for summer, interiors book beautifully October through April — and scheduling is easiest then.
Most whole-home interiors finish in 3–5 days, one room set at a time, so you're never displaced from the whole house.

Log Jams, Courthouses, and Tulips: A Short History of Mount Vernon
Jasper Gates and Joseph Dwelley settled the riverbank in 1870, and Harrison Clothier arrived in 1877 to teach school and open a store with his former student E.G. English. They laid out the town while it was still heavy timber and named it for George Washington's estate. A massive ancient log jam in the Skagit kept big boats out, so mail came down by canoe, and by 1881 the permanent population was 75.
Things turned in November 1884, when Mount Vernon took the county seat from La Conner. The Great Northern laid its line through town in 1891, the city incorporated on July 5, 1893, and the brick courthouse from that year still stands on Main Street. Fires in 1891, 1900, and 1903 took the original wooden downtown, the 1894 flood brought the first dike, and the interurban to Bellingham opened in 1912.
The tulips came later. Bellingham held a tulip festival from 1920 to 1930, then freezes and the Depression pushed the growers south into Skagit County, where William Roozen bought the Washington Bulb Company in 1955. Every April the valley fills with visitors, and the city of 35,219 hosts the street fair downtown.
Inside, the historic core brings plaster, tall trim, and lead-safe prep. The hillside homes bring tall great-room walls and drywall that needs clean lines and a washable finish.
