The Right System for Your Siding
Every siding fails differently in Acme weather. Pick yours — the prep, primer, and coating change with it.
Cedar & Wood Siding
Acme's classic — and its most demanding. Cedar moves with moisture, so the system has to breathe: oil or acrylic primer on bare wood, then two coats of 100% acrylic that flex through freeze-thaw.
What Exterior Painting Costs in Acme
A full exterior repaint in the Acme area usually lands between $5,000 and $15,000. Valley farmhouses with weathered cedar need more scrape-and-prime time than a tight single-story, and that's the main thing that moves the number. Barns and outbuildings get quoted per structure, so you only pay for what you actually want painted.
You'll get the estimate free, in writing, broken out line by line. No allowances, no surprises.
Coatings Chosen for Acme's Weather
What does foothill rainfall and deep valley shade do to a paint job? Everything, eventually. That's why Acme homes get breathable, flexible 100% acrylic systems from us, with elastomeric where conditions demand it.
Expect 8–12 years from siding done right and 5–7 from the most exposed trim. Expect three from a shortcut job, and we've repainted plenty of those.
Prep Is Everything on Older Cedar Siding
Prep around Acme starts with what's actually here: cedar-sided farmhouses in the South Fork valley. Weathered surfaces get scraped and sanded lead-safe by our EPA-certified crew, organic growth gets treated at the root, and bare wood gets primer before anything else.
That hidden work is why our repaints last. Skip it and you're repainting twice in ten years.
Timing Around Whatcom County Weather
Exterior season here is late spring through early fall — we need dry surfaces and 50°F+ temperatures for proper curing. We watch the forecast daily and sequence walls so no coat ever goes on damp siding.
Booking your estimate in winter or early spring locks in the best summer slots.

Named After a Hymn Book: A Short History of Acme
Acme sits in the South Fork valley of the Nooksack, between the North Cascades and Lake Whatcom. There are two stories about the name, both from 1887: one says Samuel Parks named it after a hymnal he owned, the other credits a resident named Parls and the local church's new Acme hymn book. Either way, the word means the highest point.
It never incorporated and never got big. The 2020 census counted 229 people, down slightly from 246 in 2010. What it has is farmland on the valley floor, timber on the slopes, and Highway 9 running through the middle.
The homes follow that pattern: cedar-sided farmhouses from the early years, mid-century houses along the highway, and newer builds on acreage, all of them in a valley that is beautiful, wet, and hard on paint.
Outside, damp air lingers in the valley and shaded walls grow mildew fast. Moss off, bare wood primed, breathable coatings on: that is the whole job here, and we quote it that way.
