The Right Finish for Every Room
Steamy bathrooms and busy hallways need different paint than a bedroom ceiling. Pick a room — the product, sheen, and prep change with it.
Living & Family Rooms
The rooms everyone sees — and touches. Washable matte and eggshell finishes hide wall imperfections while surviving fingerprints, furniture scuffs, and movie-night spills.
What Interior Painting Costs in Bellingham
Most interior projects range from $1,200 to $12,500+ depending on room count, ceiling height, and trim detail — a single room runs around $850, a full whole-home repaint lands at the high end. Taller South Hill two-stories and detailed craftsman trim push budgets upward, while compact Birchwood ramblers keep them modest.
Estimates are free, written, and itemized by room, so you can phase the work however your budget likes.
Paints That Handle Our Damp Climate
Homes in Bellingham live with marine air off Bellingham Bay and months of gray drizzle — and months of closed windows. In kitchens, baths, and basements we spec mildew-resistant enamels and moisture-tolerant finishes that scrub clean without burnishing.
Everywhere else we default to low- and zero-VOC paints — your home stays livable while we work, and the smell is gone by dinner.
Older Walls Deserve Real Prep
Craftsman-era plaster homes in Columbia and the Lettered Streets alongside newer builds in Barkley and Cordata set the prep bar around Bellingham. We fill cracks, skim-coat damage, sand smooth, and prime before any color goes on — walls telegraph every shortcut.
On pre-1978 homes our prep follows EPA lead-safe practice — we're a certified firm.
Winter Is Interior Season
While exterior work waits for summer, interiors book beautifully October through April — and scheduling is easiest then.
Most whole-home interiors finish in 3–5 days, one room set at a time, so you're never displaced from the whole house.

What Our Customers Say
"Hilltop Painting to the rescue! I am thrilled with everything about this company. I am a real estate agent and have a listing in Bellingham, out of my normal service area. We needed full interior painting asap, in June none-the-less, the busiest time of year for painters for exterior painting."
"Hilltop Painting provided expert ideas about our kitchen cabinet restoration and paint colors! They also painted our interior walls and baseboards. The team worked hard and efficiently. It was really nice that they asked us several times if we were satisfied with their work."
"We are so fortunate to find Daniel and Hilltop Painting! We had a project with a very narrow window with short start time frame for a complete interior repaint. Daniel was extremely professional and gave us a very thorough and fair estimate. The workers were very professional, very clean, and respectful of our home."

Four Towns, One City: A Short History of Bellingham
Long before the mills, Bellingham Bay was Coast Salish country. The Lummi, Nooksack, Samish, and Nuwhaha fished the bay and hunted the forests behind it, and the Lummi Nation still sits just west of the city today.
The town story starts in 1852, when Henry Roeder and Russel Peabody built a lumber mill on Whatcom Creek. Coal turned up at Sehome two years later, and the mines under what is now downtown ran for a century, until 1955. Dan Harris platted Fairhaven in 1883, the railroads arrived in the early 1890s, and for a while four rival towns shared one waterfront: Whatcom, Sehome, Bellingham, and Fairhaven.
They finally merged on December 28, 1903, and took their name from the bay, which George Vancouver had named for Sir William Bellingham back in 1792. The teachers' college that opened as the New Whatcom Normal School grew into Western Washington University, and the brick blocks of Fairhaven and downtown are the ones the boom years left behind.
Inside, that history shows up as horsehair plaster, settled lath, and trim with a dozen coats on it. We prep plaster differently than drywall, keep the old fir trim where it is worth keeping, and follow lead-safe practices in anything built before 1978.
