The Right Product for Your Cabinets
We get asked what we spray more than anything else. The honest answer: it depends on the kitchen. These four systems are the ones we trust.
Catalyzed Urethane Enamel
Our workhorse for busy family kitchens. A two-part system that cross-links as it cures into a shell far harder than any one-part paint — chips, steam, and scrubbing bounce off it.
Refinishing vs. Replacing in Bellingham
Most full kitchen cabinet refinishes here run $3,000–$8,000. Comparable replacement starts around $20,000 and climbs fast — and takes weeks longer. Taller South Hill two-stories and detailed craftsman trim push budgets upward, while compact Birchwood ramblers keep them modest.
If your boxes are sound (most are), refinishing delivers the new-kitchen look at a fraction of the cost, with far less disruption.
How the Factory Look Happens
Every door and drawer front leaves the kitchen and gets sprayed under controlled conditions at our shop — dust managed, temperature steady, coats laid flat by the spray gun.
On frame days your kitchen disappears behind masking film, gets sprayed, and reappears clean. Matched product on frames and doors means one uniform surface throughout.
Tough Enough for Kitchen Life
A cabinet finish lives a rough life: banged by pans, wiped hourly, steamed nightly. We spec coatings built for that duty cycle, not decorative paint asked to survive it.
Give the finish its 2–3 week cure and it'll give you years. We'll leave you a one-page care card — the short version: mild soap, soft cloth, and don't baby it after the first month.
What Holds Up in Our Gray Light
Marine air off Bellingham Bay and months of gray drizzle give Bellingham kitchens cool, shifting light that changes how whites and neutrals read. We brush out samples on your actual doors so you choose colors in your kitchen's real light — warm whites, sage greens, and deep blue-greens are current favorites.
Most shortlists end at a warm white, a soft green, or a deep blue. We won't let you commit from a paper chip — sprayed sample doors in your kitchen's light make the call.

What Our Customers Say
"Hilltop Painting provided expert ideas about our kitchen cabinet restoration and paint colors! They also painted our interior walls and baseboards. The team worked hard and efficiently. It was really nice that they asked us several times if we were satisfied with their work."
"Hilltop was outstanding to work with - Daniel was incredibly responsive, they did our interior walls and kitchen cabinet painting project on time (actually it was done early) and on budget, the quality of the work was excellent, and the places where we had requests for little fixes were taken care of literally the next day."
"Hilltop painting did an amazing job on my very large(whole wall) bookcase. It was a huge endeavor with many shelves and drawers and with many sandings, primer coats and top coats. I am very happy with this job. Daniel was prompt to respond to my requests and questions and very good about communication every day."

Four Towns, One City: A Short History of Bellingham
Long before the mills, Bellingham Bay was Coast Salish country. The Lummi, Nooksack, Samish, and Nuwhaha fished the bay and hunted the forests behind it, and the Lummi Nation still sits just west of the city today.
The town story starts in 1852, when Henry Roeder and Russel Peabody built a lumber mill on Whatcom Creek. Coal turned up at Sehome two years later, and the mines under what is now downtown ran for a century, until 1955. Dan Harris platted Fairhaven in 1883, the railroads arrived in the early 1890s, and for a while four rival towns shared one waterfront: Whatcom, Sehome, Bellingham, and Fairhaven.
They finally merged on December 28, 1903, and took their name from the bay, which George Vancouver had named for Sir William Bellingham back in 1792. The teachers' college that opened as the New Whatcom Normal School grew into Western Washington University, and the brick blocks of Fairhaven and downtown are the ones the boom years left behind.
In the kitchens, it means painted-wood originals in the older neighborhoods and honey-oak boxes from the 90s builds. Both paint beautifully with the right primer, and we spray the doors off-site either way.
