Why Chuckanut Homeowners Choose a Local Painter
Along Chuckanut Drive, homes face a rare mix of salt spray, forest shade, and driving rain β a real test for any coating. Our wet Pacific Northwest weather is hard on paint, so every proposal starts with prep.
Salt spray off Samish Bay plus deep evergreen shade keeps siding wet longer here, so mildew treatment and breathable coatings matter more than anywhere.
Chuckanut has plenty of homes built before 1978, where old coatings need careful, lead-safe prep. As an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm, our crews handle scraping and sanding on older siding the safe, legal way β and we schedule every exterior around real Whatcom County weather windows.

Painting Homes in Chuckanut
Forested hillside homes along Chuckanut Drive live under heavy shade, moss, and constant coastal moisture β conditions that demand thorough prep and breathable coatings.
Homes along Chuckanut Drive live between the forest and the sea, and their finishes fight both. Done right β washed, primed, sealed, and specced per elevation β a repaint here stays beautiful against some of the county's best views.
Where the Cascades Meet the Sea: A Short History of Chuckanut
Chuckanut is a Coast Salish word meaning long beach far from a narrow entrance, and the Chuckanut Mountains are the only place the Cascades come down to salt water. The sandstone under them is about 55 million years old, and the cliffs and outcrops along the bay are made of it.
The road is the history. A county road from Blanchard toward Bellingham joined the state system in 1895, and the cliffside stretch through the mountains opened as gravel in 1916 and was paved in 1921. It carried the Pacific Highway, then U.S. 99, and since 1970 has been State Route 11, better known as Chuckanut Drive.
Charles Larrabee deeded the waterfront that became Washington's first state park, accepted by the state in 1915 and renamed Larrabee State Park in 1923. The Works Progress Administration built its water system and shelters in 1936, and the family added another 1,500 acres in 1937.
For a painter, Chuckanut homes live between the forest and the sea, and their finishes fight both. Washed, treated, primed, sealed, and specced elevation by elevation, a repaint here holds up. Rushed, it does not.
