Why Bow Homeowners Choose a Local Painter
From Bow-Edison farmhouses on the Samish flats to homes tucked under the Chuckanut foothills, Bow homes face real Pacific Northwest weather. We paint here regularly — and plan every project around it. Our wet Pacific Northwest weather is hard on paint, so every proposal starts with prep.
Bow's homes sit exposed on the flats or shaded under the Chuckanut foothills — both extremes are hard on paint in their own way.
Bow has plenty of homes built before 1978, where old coatings need careful, lead-safe prep. As an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm, our crews handle scraping and sanding on older siding the safe, legal way — and we schedule every exterior around real Skagit County weather windows.

Painting Homes in Bow
From Chuckanut foothill homes to Bow-Edison's farmhouses and studios, Bow properties mix old cedar, farm outbuildings, and full weather exposure.
Bow-Edison's little main street and its surrounding farmsteads are some of the most photographed buildings in Skagit County — we paint them to look the part and to shrug off the wind that whips across the flats.
Brownsville, Bow, and a Socialist Colony: A Short History of Bow
William J. Brown homesteaded the townsite in 1869, and the place was Brownsville until the railroad arrived and brought a post office. Brown suggested the name Bow, after the big railway station in London, though some say it honors a homesteader named James Bow or a Norwegian family named Boe.
Next door, Edison was settled in 1869 by Ben Samson and named for the inventor. In 1897 it became the headquarters of Equality Colony, a national socialist experiment on 280 acres outside town, with its own farms, mills, school, and a newspaper called Industrial Freedom. The colony faded after 1903.
Today Bow-Edison is a small main street of bakeries, galleries, and taverns surrounded by diked farmland on the Samish flats, with the Chuckanut foothills behind it. The 2020 census counted 203 people in Bow and 240 in Edison.
For a painter, Bow is two exposures. The flats get wind and driving rain; the foothills get shade and damp. Old cedar, farm outbuildings, and the Bow-Edison storefronts all need a wash, primer on bare wood, and coatings chosen for where they stand.
