Why Sedro-Woolley Homeowners Choose a Local Painter
Sedro-Woolley's older housing stock and river-valley weather call for patient prep — exactly the kind of work we do best. Our wet Pacific Northwest weather is hard on paint, so every proposal starts with prep.
Wet winters and damp Skagit County air accelerate mildew and coating failure, especially on north-facing and shaded walls.
Much of Sedro-Woolley's housing dates to the early 1900s, where old coatings need careful, lead-safe prep. As an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm, our crews handle scraping and sanding on older siding the safe, legal way — and we schedule every exterior around real Skagit County weather windows.

Painting Homes in Sedro-Woolley
Sedro-Woolley's millwork-era homes and rural properties carry decades of old paint — careful scraping, priming, and often lead-safe prep come first here.
A century ago this was mill country, and the houses those mills built still line Sedro-Woolley's streets. Painting them well means honoring old wood: gentle prep, proper primers, and coatings that let the foothill dampness breathe out.
Bug, Sedro, Woolley: A Short History of Sedro-Woolley
David Batey and three other British bachelors homesteaded here in 1878, the year the log jams were cleared downriver at Mount Vernon. Mortimer Cook, a former mayor of Santa Barbara, arrived in the mid 1880s and wanted to call his new town Bug, for the mosquitoes. His wife and the other wives objected, so he took the Spanish word for cedar, cedro, changed one letter, and got Sedro.
The Fairhaven and Southern Railroad reached town on Christmas Eve 1889, and within months two more lines crossed it a half mile north, forming a triangle where eleven trains a day eventually stopped. Philip Woolley built a lumber and shingle mill at the crossing and a company town around it, and the rival towns merged as Sedro-Woolley on December 19, 1898.
A fire on July 24, 1911 took out all but four buildings in the business district, which is why downtown is brick today. Tusko the circus elephant ran through town in 1922. Skagit Steel and the Northern State Hospital carried the economy after the mills, and today the town of 12,421 is home to the headquarters of North Cascades National Park.
For a painter, a century ago this was mill country, and the houses those mills built still line Sedro-Woolley's streets. Painting them well means honoring old wood: gentle prep, proper primers, lead-safe practices, and coatings that let the wood breathe.
