The Right Finish for Every Room
Steamy bathrooms and busy hallways need different paint than a bedroom ceiling. Pick a room — the product, sheen, and prep change with it.
Living & Family Rooms
The rooms everyone sees — and touches. Washable matte and eggshell finishes hide wall imperfections while surviving fingerprints, furniture scuffs, and movie-night spills.
What Interior Painting Costs in Fairhaven
A century home's interior is priced with respect for what's in it. Rooms start around $850 and whole-Victorian repaints reach $12,500+, mostly because original plaster and fir casings want brushwork and patching that newer homes never need.
Your free written estimate names those hours honestly, room by room.
Paints That Handle Our Damp Climate
Homes in Fairhaven live with sea air that keeps the historic district damp well into the morning, plus months of closed windows. Kitchens, baths, and basements get mildew-resistant enamels and moisture-tolerant finishes that scrub clean without burnishing.
Everywhere else we default to low- and zero-VOC paints. The home stays livable while we work, and the smell is gone by dinner.
Older Walls Deserve Real Prep
Walls remember shortcuts, especially in 1890s–1920s Victorians and craftsman homes with original plaster and fir trim. Around Fairhaven we fill, skim-coat, sand, and prime before the first color coat, because the finish only ever looks as good as what's under it.
Where a home predates 1978, the prep runs lead-safe under our EPA certification.
Winter Is Interior Season
The smart time for Fairhaven interiors is the wet half of the year, October to April, when scheduling is wide open.
Whole-home repaints run 3–5 days, room set by room set. You always have somewhere normal to sleep.

What Our Customers Say
"Hilltop Painting to the rescue! I am thrilled with everything about this company. I am a real estate agent and have a listing in Bellingham, out of my normal service area. We needed full interior painting asap, in June none-the-less, the busiest time of year for painters for exterior painting."
"Hilltop and Andres team was top notch. They were professional, efficient and walked us through the process day by day. We had eight different colors in the interior of our home and they transformed it within a week and had a quick quote to finish turn around. Highly recommend and will be going back to them for our exterior."
"Daniel and his crew lead Sergio were very knowledgeable and efficient! They helped me learn more about the type of paint that would be best for me, having used Sherwin Williams and they have many types/grades of paint. They did their work quickly and they kept things clean! Thank you for a great paint job, Hilltop!"

Dirty Dan's Boomtown: A Short History of Fairhaven
Dan Harris, known around the bay as Dirty Dan, arrived in 1853 or 1854 and eventually held the land claim along Padden Creek. He named the place Fairhaven, from the Lummi name see-see-lich-em, meaning safe port, and platted the town in 1883.
Nelson Bennett and Charles Larrabee formed the Fairhaven Land Company in 1890 and sold the town hard as the coming terminus of the Great Northern. The population went from about 150 in 1889 to 8,000 by the end of 1890, and Fairhaven incorporated on May 13, 1890. The railroad chose Seattle instead, but the brick blocks built in that rush still stand along Harris Avenue and 11th Street.
Fairhaven voted to join Whatcom on October 27, 1903, and the merged city of Bellingham was born that December. Salmon kept the district working long after the boom: by the 1940s Pacific American Fisheries, headquartered here, was the largest salmon canning operation in the world. The 1903 Carnegie library on 12th Street still checks out books, and the whole district is on the National Register.
Inside a Fairhaven Victorian, that means plaster and lath, tall baseboards, and trim with a century of paint on it. We keep the original wood where it is sound, use lead-safe practices on anything pre-1978, and cut clean lines around the ornate casings.
